About Milly Swire Jewellery
A bit about Milly Swire
I first started making jewellery when I was very young, experimenting with Fimo,
small glass beads and pretty much anything I could get my hands on. My passion for
jewellery grew steadily, and finally I decided to go and study in Florence where
I started a three year comprehensive jewellery course at Le Arti Orafe.
In the three years the course I chose enabled me to learn and experiment from very
traditional techniques through set projects I had to complete to other more artistic
methods, which included wax modelling, enamelling, and gemmology course. In my last
year at school I began to work and experiment with ebony, which I am definitely
going to carry on and develop further.
Whilst still at school I set up Milla Mee, working from home in Florence, creating
one off pieces that included necklaces, earrings and bracelets using semi-precious
stones, chain and charms that I had collected over the years on my travels around
the world.
Now having finished my degree I have set up a more permanent studio where I am able
to undertake commissions using various techniques I have developed.
One of my recent collections for summer 2007 was greatly inspired by the form wax
takes when it heats up and melts, this became the ‘liquid’ collection as it reminded
me of the shapes created by waves. Casting the rings in silver and gold I then began
to experiment with colours using enamel and semi-precious stones. Using wax is a
technique I would like to develop into other objects such as pendants and earrings,
creating inspired one-off unique pieces. In the future I would like to explore and
develop my use of pigments, resin, and chemicals to create interesting coloured
surfaces on the objects, and other methods working directly on the metal itself.
The jewellery that I make are one-off bespoke pieces, from the collection of chain
and charm necklaces to the ‘liquid’ rings, as I feel it’s more personal to the wearer
if there is no other piece like it.
All my jewellery can be commissioned or changed to suit personal desires. Please
do not hesitate to contact me with any enquiries.
